Day 1: USA to Dakar, Senegal – Depart the United States on an Air France flight from New York (JFK) to Dakar, Senegal. (Flight times to be announced.) Settle in for an overnight journey as you prepare for your West African adventure.
Day 2: Arrive in Dakar – Upon arrival in Dakar, our local representative will greet you and transfer you to your hotel. After check-in and a bit of time to refresh, enjoy a brief orientation. In the afternoon, embark on a fascinating excursion to Gorée Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, known for its significant role in the transatlantic slave trade. The island is a poignant reminder of Africa’s past. Return to the hotel for a relaxing evening, followed by a welcome dinner where you can mingle with fellow travelers. Meals: Dinner (D)
Day 3: Dakar to Banjul, Gambia – After a hearty breakfast, enjoy a short orientation session before we begin our journey to Banjul, Gambia’s capital. The transfer includes scenic views as we cross from Senegal to Gambia. Once in Banjul, we’ll check in to our accommodations and spend the afternoon exploring the city at your leisure. Banjul is home to colorful markets, unique architecture, and a vibrant culture. Meals: Breakfast (B), Lunch (L)
Day 4: Juffureh & Fort James Island – Today, embark on a historical adventure. After breakfast, we’ll transfer to the harbor for a boat trip to Juffureh, the ancestral home of Alex Haley, author of Roots. You will also visit Fort James Island, an important site in the transatlantic slave trade. Learn about the enduring legacy of slavery and its impact on both Africa and the Americas. Reflect on the significance of these sites, while enjoying the stunning landscapes that surround them. Return to Banjul in the afternoon for some leisure time.

Day 5: Free Day in Banjul – After a busy few days, today is yours to relax or explore at your own pace. You might choose to visit local markets, wander along the scenic beaches, or immerse yourself in the city’s lively atmosphere. There are plenty of options for additional excursions if you wish, or simply enjoy the leisure time to reflect on your journey so far.

Day 6: Return to Dakar – After breakfast, we take a short flight back to Dakar, Senegal. Upon arrival, there will be time for last-minute shopping or sightseeing, as well as time to relax at your hotel. The evening is free for you to enjoy the city or take in the vibrant nightlife that Dakar is famous for.

Day 7: Free Day in Dakar – Today, enjoy some free time to revisit the sights of Dakar or relax before the long journey home. You can stroll along the vibrant streets, explore the African Renaissance Monument, or enjoy the views of the Atlantic coast. There are plenty of local markets and restaurants to explore, or you can opt for some peaceful reflection by the ocean.

Day 8: Depart Dakar for the USA – After breakfast, take one last opportunity to enjoy your surroundings before checking out. We will provide a transfer to the airport for your return flight to the United States, bringing back with you memories of West Africa’s incredible history, vibrant culture, and warm hospitality.
