Senegal is a country located in West Africa. The country is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south. The country’s official name is the Republic of Senegal. The land area of Senegal is 196,722 square kilometers, with a population estimated at 15 million people.
Senegal is a culturally rich and diverse country. There is a strong tradition of music and dance, as well as a vibrant art scene. The cuisine is also very interesting, with a mix of African, and French influences. The official languages of Senegal are French and Wolof, but many other languages are also spoken, including Serer, Fulani, Jola, and Mandinka. The country’s attractions include its beaches, national parks, and historic sites.
Banjul – The Gambia is a small West African country located on the Atlantic coast. It is bordered by Senegal to the north,, east, and south, and has a small coastline on the Atlantic Ocean in the west and is one of the smallest countries in Africa, and its capital city, Banjul, is also one of the smallest capital cities on the continent. Despite its small size, The Gambia is a popular tourist destination, especially for visitors from Europe and the United States.
The Gambia is a great place to visit if you are looking for a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere. The people are friendly and welcoming, and there is a wide range of things to see and do, from exploring the capital city to relaxing on one of the many beautiful beaches. The Gambia is also a great place to see a variety of wildlife, including primates, reptiles, and birds. explore the markets, visit the museums and take a tour of the old fort. Outside of the city, there are plenty of opportunities to see wildlife, go on safari, or take a boat trip up the Gambia River. If you just want to relax, there are plenty of beaches to choose from, as well as resorts and hotels where you can enjoy this beautiful country.

Monday, May 8 – New York/Dakar – Departure from Charleston, SC for NY. Departure times are to be announced.
Tuesday, May 9 – Arrive in Dakar at 7:40 am, meet the Rep of Alkamba Tours & transfer to Novotel and check in your hotel room. Orientation meeting. We will have lunch at a local place. Later, join the rest of your group for a welcome dinner. Novotel Hotel B/D
Wednesday, May 10 – Breakfast is 7:30 am sharp, followed by a sightseeing tour of Dakar, including a visit to the national museum, the presidential palace, and the market and handicraft gallery. Lunch will be served. (drive by the Cheikh Anta Diop University). Novotel Hotel or similar. B
Thursday, May 11 – Breakfast is at 7:30 am. Shortly after, board your transport for a trip to the harbor to take a ferry to Goree Island. You will meet the curator and have a question and answer session, the museum and See the “Door of No Return.” Later return to Dakar, and then visit the African Renaissance Center. Also, visit the West African Research Center. Evening on our own in Downtown Dakar. Novotel Hotel or similar. B
Friday, May 12 – Dakar/Banjul – Early morning breakfast at 7:30 am and start our journey to Banjul the Gambia*. Visit a Fulani village on the way to Gambia. Arrive at the border after 6 hours of driving and have your passport checked and proceed, to the ferry in the Gambia. Cross over to Banjul and drive to Coco Ocean Hotel Resort or similar and check in to your room. Enjoy the rest of the day on your own. B
Saturday, May 13 – Join the rest of your group for an early 7:30 am breakfast and transfer to the village of Kudang. This is an all-day affair and will include lunch, music, cultural events, site seeing, interaction with the local people, etc. We will return to the hotel by evening. Sunday, May 14 – Breakfast will be at 7:30 am, and start your tour of the city to include the Arch 22 monument and national museums. Also, visit the University of Gambia and later have lunch. Afterward, visit the Royal Victoria teaching hospital and then to the central marketplace on our way back to the hotel. You can order items to be made at the market by tomorrow. Coco Ocean Hotel Resort or similar. B
Monday, May 15 – Banjul/Dakar – Enjoy an early 7:00 am Breakfast and then travel by boat to the Museums at Alberda and Juffereh; visit Kunta Kinteh Island on your roots tour. You will visit the village authority and have a lecture on the Atlantic Slave trade in this area. From there we will travel back to Dakar, Senegal. Lunch in Alberda. Return that evening to Dakar. Novotel Hotel or similar. B
Tuesday, May 16 – Enjoy breakfast this morning at your hotel. We will depart the Novotel Hotel at 1:30 pm. We will stop and visit the new Black Civilizations Museum for 2-3 ½ hours and enjoy last-minute shopping at a nearby market.
Wednesday, May 17 – Dakar/USA – Today we will prepare for travel back to the USA. Our flight departs at 8:10 am. Departure for the airport will be announced. Upon arrival, we will overnight in New York, JFK at an airport hotel, offering shuttle service to and from the airport.
Thursday, May 18 – Depart in the morning for your domestic flight back to your home city.
